Amy Winehouse won a songwriting "Oscar" - but arrived too late to pick up her gong.
The 24-year-old's father Mitch had to go on stage to collect her Ivor Novello for Best Song Musically and Lyrically on his daughter's behalf.
Judges of the prestigious Novello put the singer's troubles behind her to award her the title for her self-penned track Love Is A Losing Game.
A message of thanks read out by Mitch Winehouse failed to mention the singer's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who is in jail awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Mitch told the audience, which featured names like David Gilmour and Mark Ronson: "I don't know what I'm doing up here. Amy unfortunately couldn't make it but she's getting better and she sends you all her love."
Last year, Winehouse's autobiographical track Rehab, which she wrote about her refusal to seek treatment for her drinking, won the Ivor Novello for Best Contemporary song.
Mitch said: "She's asked me to thank the Ivors for being the first to recognise her talent."
Winehouse did turn up when the ceremony was more than halfway over. The bee-hived star sat on a table while draping her arms around her father. She said afterwards: "I'm fine. Really well."
The singer told her father off for saying she was "getting better". Asked why his daughter was late, Mitch said: "She's always late. She was fashionably late," and added that he did not mention her husband's name because he "forgot".
He said: "He's doing really well and Amy is being very supportive."
LONDON (AP) — Amy Winehouse will not face charges over video footage that allegedly shows her taking drugs, her spokesman said Wednesday.
Police questioned the Grammy-winning soul diva for nine hours last week over a January video that appears to show her smoking a pipe usually used for crack cocaine during a party at her north London home. Police began an investigation after photos from the footage were published in The Sun newspaper.
Spokesman Chris Goodman said police had finished their investigation and confirmed no charges would be brought against the 24-year-old singer.
"Amy is pleased to be able to move on and concentrate on music and particularly looks forward to seeing her fans again at eagerly awaited festival performances this summer," he said in a statement.
London police confirmed that no further action was being taken against a 24-year-old north London woman arrested last week on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs. British police do not release the names of suspects who have not been charged.
The singer, best known for her breakthrough hit "Rehab," has seen her rapid rise to fame overshadowed by media attention on her turbulent private life studded with wild nights out and run-ins with the law.
Last month she was cautioned by police for assault after she slapped a man during a night out. That means no charges were filed, but the incident was placed on her record.
LONDON, England (AP) -- Amy Winehouse has been arrested on suspicion of drugs possession, police and her spokesman said Wednesday.
Winehouse's spokesman, Chris Goodman, said the arrest is connected to a video that is alleged to show the troubled singer taking drugs at a party in her home in north London.
Britain's The Sun tabloid in January published still images from a video that it claimed showed Winehouse inhaling fumes from a small pipe. The images were said to have been filmed during a party at her London home.
London's Metropolitan Police said a 24-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of drugs possession. Goodman confirmed his client was in police custody.
"Amy Winehouse voluntarily attended a London police station today by appointment. She was arrested in order to be interviewed and is cooperating fully with inquiries," Goodman said in a statement.
"The interview relates to a video handed to police earlier this year," he said.

Fresh from her triumphant performance at the Brits where she picked up the British Female Solo Artist award, Amy Winehouse has her much anticipated new single, ”Back To Black”, released on April 16th through Island Records.
